Silken Berlaymont / Zoom Gallery
Photographic artworks exhibitions in a Brussels hotel
Silken Berlaymont

In order to better promote the living museum of the image of our time that is the Silken Berlaymont and to enhance its permanent private collection of 450 artworks of European artists, the hotel launched "The Zoom Gallery" in 2001.

This photographic gallery presents, every three months, exhibitions of photographic artworks from existing or future famous European artists.

In the heart of the European district, the hotel Silken Berlaymont hotel opened since 1996, owns a private photo collection of around 450 artworks on every decorative support.

The art of the 21st century has been fully integrated in this establishment of exceptional architecture designed by the Belgian Serge Roose.

The gallery is located on the beautiful 'passerelle' leading the guest from the lobby to "L'Objectif" restaurant or 'The News' bar. The passerelle benefits from the brightness of natural direct daylight.

The second part of the gallery is located in the large and gorgeous corridor (see picture) linking the two buildings of the hotel and adjacent to the meeting rooms. This locations takes advantage from indirect natural daylight falling down from the passerelle.

“Energy Sculptures”

Maresa jung: Since 1988, Maresa Jung has turned fulltime to photogrfaphy and had led up to her move to the Rhineland a photography studio in Bavaria. Portraits of children as well as the applied photography in industrial design and marketing are her main emphasis.

The more recent works show more landscapes and still life-like arrangements of natural objects, which obliges the photographer an intensive revising on the computer (color, contrast,...), in order to achieve highly artificial creations.

The energy of the camera movements and its interchange with stationary light sources (emitters) creates a photographic phenomenon of energy sculptures in the dark - fictiously planned or manipulated.

The dark is disolved into the light by the digital process. Energy - also made visible in the light in selected, by chance types, complex within itself includes friction and convergence, mergence and parting - in geometry and chaos.
